ABOUT THE FOUNDATION

Excavation and restoration work at Zerzevan Castle was first started with the permission of the Ministry of Culture and Tourism in 2014 under the chairmanship of Assoc. Prof. Dr. Aytaç Coşkun and has been still continuing today.

 

Zerzevan Castle and Mithras Temple were included in the UNESCO World Heritage Temporary List in 2020.

As the Zerzevan Castle and Temple of Mithras Foundation, our goal is to make contributions to world culture and history, Türkiye’s tourism and economy as well as promote our country in international platforms by fully supporting excavations works. The excavation work at Zerzevan Cast which is anticipated to last nearly 50 years will uncover one of the most important heritages of the world culture with the support of our Foundation. Since the first days of the excavation work, it has been flooded with visitors from all over the world. The excavation work that started at Zerzevan Castle will play a key role in the enlightenment of the region during the Roman Period as this place was once used by ancient Romes as a military settlement.
