ABOUT THE FOUNDATION

Zerzevan Castle excavation and restoration works were carried out by Assoc. Prof. Dr. with the permission of the Ministry of Culture and Tourism. It was started in 2014 under the chairmanship of Aytaç COŞKUN and is still ongoing.

 

Zerzevan Castle and Mithras Temple were included in the UNESCO World Heritage Temporary List in 2020.

As the Zerzevan Castle and Temple of Mithras Foundation, our goal is to contribute to world history, the country's economy and tourism, and the promotion of our country on international platforms by supporting excavations. The excavations, which started in 2014 with the support of our Foundation, will unearth Zerzevan Castle, one of the most important heritages of human history, which is planned to last approximately 50 years. Since the first days of the excavation work, it has been flooded with visitors from all over the world. The works that have just begun in Zerzevan Castle, the military settlement of Rome, play a very important role in enlightening the region's Roman Period.
